Now picking the right DJ is a task all in itself, and speaking of DJ Alex Brown, here what he suggests you ask when weighing your options.
Hello recently engaged couples! My name is DJ Alex Brown or @DJAlexBrownpro on instagram. Co-writing this blog with O’Brien Photo and Video to help you get some great questions to ask your list of potential DJ’s. Those questions are as follows:
1. Will the DJ also MC? (A DJ who cant talk wont be able to do intros, command the crowd, get them dancing if they wont get up)
2. Does the DJ take into account the couple and their guests music tastes, can they work with requests from the crowd that night?
3. Does the DJ mix? If they don’t, each time a song ends, its like flatlining…
4. Do they hand select music or just play a playlist? (I personally am individually selecting songs based on the crowd and couples requests)
5. Do they “read the crowd” goes with the last question but the DJ needs to be watching the crowd, if the crowd isn’t liking a song, they should be able to see that and change it.
6. Do they provide cocktail hour and ceremony coverage? DJs often do music and mics for ceremonies and music for cocktail hour. Ceremony mics require more audio engineering skills than DJ skills.
7. Do they work with other vendors? My planner, photo team and more? The DJ has to be working with other vendors that day and in advance to make sure everything flows smoothly before dancing. What happens if the photographer is out eating dinner when the DJ does parent dances?
